I'm just starting USC grad school and looking for some tasty, characteristic places around USC. (mostly walking distance for inbetween classes, but if you've got good spots to drive to as well, I won't turn them down)

I've found a few old threads on this, but most of them only recommend La Taquiza and Mercado La Paloma. Can't wait to try these places, but in the meantime, does anyone have any other suggestions?

I'm also a USC grad student. :)

Manas on Vermont for vegetarian indian is the only other place that is really walking distance. It's pretty good. (definitely better than the one at the UV. Actually, everything is terrible at the UV)

Aside from La Taquiza and Chichen Itza, these are the places I would frequent:
-Papa Cristo's (greek)
-Langer's (lunch only)
-La Flor De Yucatan (baked goods; weekends for taco cochinita pibil and tamal colado, which i think is better than chichen itza and cheaper)
-Philip's bbq (at Leimert park)
-Beverly Soon Tofu
-King Tacos (alvarado and pico)
-Guelaguetza
-Dino's
(warning: none of them are really walking distance)

other times when i want to drive further:
-Sushi gen
-Daikokuya
-Grand central market

hope this helps. enjoy!

You can't forget Cholo. May not be the best food but Monday thru Thurs USC students get like 40% off if you show you ID. Also, I heard that the Bonaventure downtown gives USC students 50% off of food anytime. Not sure if it's true, but would be worth to check out.

Serre's aka Kenny's is/was a USC tradition. It used to be located in that "shack" behind Felix Chevrolet. I've been a customer for 20+ years.
