Trader Joe's in West End DC Opening September 1!!!
There's a sign outside the entrance (on 25th Street, at the new condo where Columbia Hospital used to be) announcing this.
As I'm sure the Chowhound Team will announce, discussion on Trader Joe's (good items, bad items, etc.) belongs in the Chains board. I'm hoping that announcement of the opening day of the first Trader Joe's in DC proper is OK for the DC/Baltimore board.

What metro (tain) stop is it near?

They also appear to have an area in the garage designated for Trader Joe's parking.

This seems like such an awkward location for it's first DC store; not really a great residential OR commercial cooridor over there yet. Any word on whether of not they will sell wine and beer? If not, I'll still be heading to one of the VA stores.

I think it will work out to be a great location. You're correct that it's not really residential, however, there are a lot of condos, apartments, and students in the area and no grocery stores nearby (except for a safeway in the basement of the watergate). Also, they will get a lot of traffic from people who work in the area in all the office space and the hospital right there, so I think it will do very well. I can't wait for it to open. I hope it has wine like the virginia stores!

This is a bit late, but I can confirm that TJ's will be selling wine and beer at the West End location. I dropped by yesterday to check on their progress and was stunned to see the shelves fulling stocked, including a nice wine/beer section. It looked like they were finishing installing all of the electronics at each check out lane.
All very exciting since I live 2 blocks from this place.

Warms my shallow southern California heart to see Joe's here ... I just arrived 2 months ago; they followed me! This is a nice one, bigger than any of the three San Diego stores, well-stocked shelves ... I was amused to confirm that the Two Buck Chuck costs three bucks - I guess it costs a dollar to ship it to the east coast! By the way, TJ's is famous for being in slightly odd locations - it helps them keep their prices down.
