jack & the beanstalk tofu

  • 2

i browse these boards but haven't really participated. so hello, everyone.

i picked up a tub of jack & the beanstalk tofu at the kukje market in daly city. i recognized the name from a recent post about artisan tofu in the US. i don't remember seeing it anywhere else in the city, but i thought it was delicious, clean and uh..beany. with just some soy, garlic, chili flakes and sesame. i bought the "regular," not the "firm," and i loved the texture better than the hodo block i finished off this morning, which is just a little too firm for my taste, i think. anyways, i know this jack place is in salinas, but i was wondering if there are other places here in SF that carry it. i've not yet had the san jose tofu, and otherwise i have been buying sacramento tofu, but i think i like this jack & the beanstalk stuff better. plus it seems small-op and it's korean and i'm afraid it'll disappear.

thanks

  1. Glad you stopped browsing, very nice tip.

Maybe you don't need to worry too much about J&TBS disappearing. There was a report about it three years ago, so it seems to have some staying power.

In that post there is a phone number to the company, so if no one has an asnwer, maybe you can call them.

I've been wanting to try some of the other soy mentioned in that artisan tofu topic. I'll be sure to keep my eyes open for J&TBS.

Thanks for the report. Looking foward to more.

Thanks for finding that link. I have seen the brand at Ranch 99 stores in the South Bay (e.g., Milpitas, Cupertino), never looked further north but others might have it too. Michael Black of Sebo told me its similar to Okinawan style tofu.

      I haven't had it for a while, but I think it's organic.
