The Big Downtown Restaurant

Any thoughts on the Big Downtown? What kind of atmosphere, do tourists or locals go there? Is the food good, is it expensive? Thanks so much!

It's part of the Palmer House Hilton on E. Monroe Street, I think.

I ate there a couple times when I worked in the Loop. I'd say it's a bit more of a tourist place than a locals' place. The food is fair, a bit pricey for lunch ($10 - $12 for entre if I remember correctly).

I really like the Big Downtown as a bar. It's one of the few places in the loop that you can go after work to meet a few friends and have a drink and an appetizer. In the early evening there is a pretty good mix of locals and tourists.

They have excellent drink specials and a lively atmosphere. There is sometimes live music, which is usually good, but often makes it too loud to really talk.

The food is fine, nothing special.
