I've never been out to eat during my New Years' in Barcelona (my friends and I usually make a big meal at home) so I can't suggest any restaurants. But what we always do and what is very traditional is to meet at one of the big squares (Placa Catalyuna, Placa Real, etc.) a little before midnight to eat grapes and drink cava. The tradition is to eat ten grape, one for each of the 10 seconds before midnight. So basically everyone in the city gathers in the square to watch the countdown and eat grapes. It is a nice, communal experience.

Thank you so much for the good advice! I'm looking forward to celebrating.

I've just been reminded that it is not 10 grapes but 12, one of each of the chimes of the bell at midnight. First, you make a wish and then if you can finish all the grapes in time then your wishes come true.

Two good places.. I spent New Years 2008 in La Fianna and it was a great night to remember. 10 of us in all and it went on till the early hours and the place was thumping. Great cocktails and all. check them on http://www.lafianna.com. This year we are heading to La Luna which is new but run by the same crowd. You can check out their website again lalunabcn.com or thereabouts or google them. Enjoy Barca great city indeed.
