Edinburgh - recent trip
Just returned from Fringe Festival with these suggestions and comments. Great Italian (better than some in NYC) found at Vittoria on Leith Walk. The food was inventive and the service friendly and warm. We also enjoyed Indian food at Suruchi at 14a Nicholson St. (near Royal Mile). Nothern Indian well prepared. They even had live music that sounded more British colonial officer's club than Indian. We tried reccomendations listed on previous posts with mixed results. The Villiger Pub on Georges Bridge was excellent - very inventive menu and attentive service for a "pub/cum - restaurant". Plaisur du Chocolat is a MUST. They have an unbelievable tea selection (40+ types) and some of the best chocolate desserts we have had (and we travel extensively). Be aware that Plaisur is pricey. A previous post recommended the Forsyth Tea Room that we found to be not worth the stop. We had a lunch and dinner at the Albanach Pub (Cockburn St. & Royal Mile) which turned out to be quite pleasant- both in terms of a better than average pub menu and nice service. We at lunch at Greyfriars Bobby Pub which should be avoided - nasty waitstaff and barely edible food. I hope this is useful to anyone visiting Edinburgh.
