Hi!

I'm sure this has been asked before but I couldn't find anything on my search.

Has anybody tried Shaheen's for Pakistani in Jackson Heights? I know their sweets are really good. Any other recommendations that are better than Shaheen's? I just don't want any buffets.
I'm looking for two different types of foods:
1) Pakistani/Indian curries, biryani, etc.
2) South Indian dosas, chaats, snacks, etc.

Would appreciate any recommendations.

Cheers,

Thanks,

I've had decent chats at Dimple and Rajbhog. Both places also offer a vegetarian lunch with lentils and curries. Maharaja Sweets & Snacks also offers chat, but I've only tried their excellent sweets. All 3 restaurants are within sighting distance of the intersection of 37th Ave and 73rd St.

I agree with the Dosa Diner recommendation. Pretty good dosas, uttaphams and idlis.

While the JH buffet scene is pretty dismal, a recent Time Out NY article recommends Dehli Palace's lunch buffet, which offers 14 "fresh" South Indian dishes...perhaps it's halfway decent?

Hasn't Shaheen's been replaced with Roti Boti?

I quite like the chat at Mahajara, partciularly the samosa chat--it's crust is extra thick to stand up to the chana masala it comes in (you get 2 good-sized samosas to the order). A sprinkly of raw red onions and fresh cilantro is a nice touch.
