Shanti is definitely my all time fav Indian restaurant - maybe even my all time favorite restaurante. I use to live nearby and would go often. Great service and they will email you coupons if you sign up for their email list. We have moved from the area, but will sometimes travel back for their fantastic service and their exceptional chicken saag. My DC although not such an Indian food fan, really enjoyed their beef vindaloo. The only things that I miss fromm the area are Shanti and Lambert's Italian subs!!! I sometime see Shanti posted on this board, but I definitely wanted to give a shout out to Shanti!!!

Solmon Chowdhury, one of OM's co-owners, is also co-owner of Shanti (with Mohammad Alam, its chef). Shanti also features Bangladeshi and Pakistani dishes.

Does anyone know if they have any regional specialties (I think they are Bengali or perhaps Bangladeshi?) or, better yet, any "not-on-the-menu" goodies?

I love shanti - used to go there once a week when they had the Symphony location! I don't get to Dorchester much, sadly :(

The Shanti is the perfect place to relax after a hectic day in work. The atmosphere is peaceful the staff is lovely and the food is very well done. Parking is an issue but you can usually find something on the side street. I didn't realize they were connected with OM in Cambridge though, but that does explain how OM got my e-mail address.

Yes! Shanti is my favorite Indian food in Boston and, as far as I know, the only place to get any south of the city central. The food is excellent, the atmosphere great and the service tremendous. They have this cheese and black sesame seed dish with veggies that shows up on their specials menu sometimes. I forget the name but it is so tasty.

Daily Candy recently mentioned them. http://www.dailycandy.com/article.jsp...

Apparently they are owned by the same people who opened Om in Cambridge (which is pretty and has fancy cocktails but is just another pricey-fancy drinks and apps place if you ask me).

I like the place, too. The prices are a bit high for what you get there, but worth the money, in my opinion.

I totally agree with you! I didn't even know that this place existed (it's WAY off the beaten path for me) but I had a coupon to go there so we decided to try it out. The food was EXCELLENT, the atmosphere was very relaxing, classy, pretty romantic. It's dimly lit, nicely decorated, even the bathrooms were lovely! We had the meat samosas per recommendation of some regulars we were sitting next to. They were perfect. We also enjoyed the tikka masala as well as another chicken special. The plain naan was cooked perfectly. It doesn't look like anything special from the outside, but it's a great place.
