BEST DINNER IN MISSISSAUGA
I've been out of Mississauga for a while, but the Emerald chinese restaurant at the corner of Hurontario and Eglinton used to be excellent. I had dinner at Allegro the other night and wasn't overly impressed for the second time. First I thought my Scottish mother-in-law was going to have heart failure at the prices ($35-45 for the better mains and $99 per person for the tasting menu - without wine - gasp). Second, it is just far too noisy - and this was my previous complaint with it. The design doesn't include anything to dampen the noise. We were there on a Tuesday and it was packed. The service was a little slow as a result, but the noise level made any kind of conversation painful. We couldn't get out fast enough.
As for the food, I had the Lamb Trinity for around $45+ (it's market price and I didn't see the final bill). It was nicely presented, but lacking any defining flavour. My husband had the signature Veal chop and my MIL had the veal tenderloin. They both seemed to enjoy their meal, but no one was raving as they should have been for the prices. It was >160 for 3 mains and a bottle of sparkling water. Definitely a place to go when you are using the expense account and you don't really want to talk to your guest too much.
