Excellent ethnic near SFO

Will be meeting with 6-10 people who want to eat near SFO (but not at the international food court there) to meet with a friend who is doing a 5 hour turn around at SFO It will be a Saturday night around 6-7 - in case that matters.

What do hounds recommend?

  1. The stretch of excellent Chinese restaurants along El Camino Real in Millbrae. Also Le Petite Camille (Vietnamese) in the same area.

Thanks, but I need specific names of restaurants and what you like b/c people will be coming from out of the area (so the ability to get reservations - if needed- and parking are relevant)

Then your best best is probably to search this site for "Millbrae" and read some of the many, many reviews of the restaurants there.

Well, again, Le Petite Camille, Vietnamese. Is that specific enough?

For Chinese (Cantonese seafood): Hong Kong Flower Lounge, Fook Yuen, or Zen Peninsula.

All are on El Camino Real in Millbrae. Parking should not be a problem for any of these.

      2. I second the recommendation for Le Petite Camille. They're open late, in case there's any sort of flight delays involved.

        1. Thanks again

The threads I searched are a bit dated and we all know that change of chef, etc can change things a lot. Was hoping for recent in person experiences and maybe even some standout dish recommendations ;)

Here's my post on dinner in April on Zen Peninsula.

What you might trying is sort the search results by "date", then you can scan the most recent reports easily. Also search for posts on The Kitchen, the new kid in town.

          2. Hong Kong Flower Lounge, 51 Millbrae Ave., but really @ El Camino Real. Steamed egg white with chicken and diced salted fish, bean curd sheets stuffed with mushrooms, fresh scallops with pine nuts, seafood soup, salt pepper sole. Has its own parking and adjacent parking lot.

            1. Wow - thanks Melanie - whether we end up at Zen or not I'm going to make a special trip after seeing your great pic of the egg whites and scallop:D Gotta have it!

Keep the suggestions coming as this will be a group decision - not mine ;)

              1. I've been meaning to post about a visit with friends from out of town to Tribu Grill (http://www.chowhound.com/topics/show/... ) but haven't had time. This is a tidy, nicely modern Filipino joint on El Camino Real. The emphasis is on pork, the portions are beyond generous, and the flavors ranged from odd, to satisfying, and perhaps even to decadent. You should not bother if your co-eaters are on a diet or want prettily plated food or linen napkins, but if you are going for the pig, this is a good spot.
