Ottawa - dinner on a Sunday night

My man and I are going to be in Ottawa in a couple of weeks for a wedding, and we've decided to stay over on the Sunday to have a mini-break...just the two of us. Any suggestions as to where to go for dinner on a Sunday night? We'd like something with great food, a place that's a bit trendy, with a good wine list as well. Emphasis should be place on the food. Is this asking too much for staid Ottawa? Any help would be greatly appreciated!

    1. I agree, Beckta is probably the place for you based on your description. It constantly gets raves on this board and from my limited experience, deservedly so. Par-fyum in Hull is another option, but I've only ever been for lunch on a weekday so can't attest to the atmosphere on a Sunday evening. That part of town can be a bit dead on the weekends.

If you weren't looking for something trendy I'd suggest Les Fougeres in Chelsea, which is lovely but out in the woods - I find the food excellent and the atmosphere formal, but more mellow.

      1. smayes' recs are flawless. Had a lovely dinner at Beckta last week - I much prefer it to par-fyum. As ownder Stephen Beckta is a sommellier by training, the wine list is lovely - and both the wait-staff and Stephen will have good recommendations for matching a nice bottle or series of glasses with your food choices... it is one of the few restaurants where I let myself be guided by staff recommendations, and have yet to be disappointed.
