Looking for casual dining with waterfront views in Rhode Island

sarahbeth Aug 18, 2006 01:49 AM

I have a friend visiting from Virginia and would like to take her to the scenic parts of Rhode Island for dinner. Nothing too fancy or has a three hour wait for dinner. It can be anywhere since we will be spending the afternoon in Mystic. Any suggestions???

Quito's in Bristol (I think that's the spelling). Good fried clams on the water.

Since you are going to be in Mystic, I highly recommend the Skipper's Dock restaurant in nearby Stonington. Good food in a spectacular setting - the restaurant is out on the end of a wharf in Stonington Harbor. Here is a link to their web site:

In addition to Joanie's rec for Quito's (yup, right spelling), De Wolf Tavern in Bristol. Both are excellent, with Quito's rather more casual. Bristol is much less hectic than Newport.

Don't forget Lobster Pot in Bristol...the other two are a bit better, but Lobster Pot has a great view.

Abbotts in Noank CT is between Mystic and the RI border. Picnic tables on the water- hot lobster rolls ok, but not fab. Beautiful view. A little hard to find, but a pretty drive.

Much farther north- Evelyn's in Tiverton. Good chowder and clamcakes. Can have waitress service & get beer or wine, or get takeout and sit at the picnic tables.

A drink on the deck at the Coast Guard house in Narragansett is always nice in good weather.

I agree Bristol is a great destination too.

Just across the line in Westport Mass is the Back Eddy, which completely meets your requirements. The food is really good and the sunsets are spectacular. There might be a bit of a wait but the place is a lot of fun.

            Go here: http://www.thebackeddy.com

First look at the menu, then click on sunsets.

You have already some excellent suggestions. If you want to stop off in South County on the way back from CT, I would second the recommendation for the Coast Guard House in Narragansett- the view is excellent. Also, just across the street (about a block or two south of the CG House) is Turtle Soup at the Ocean Rose Inn. Great views from the tables on the patio or on the porch. We had an excellent dinner there last week.
