possibly for steak, but anything great would be appreciated.

  1. New Brunswick -
    The Frog and the Peach
    Panico's
Stage Left (feels overpriced to us, but my aunt and uncle swear by their chateaubriad for 2, if you're looking for steak)

Bernardsville (if you go between Wayne and NB via 287) -
    The Bernards Inn
    Le Petit Chateau

Westfield (if you take the parkway/22/527 route) -
Chez Catherine (it's been way too long, but I've got good, albeit fuzzy, memories)

    Scotch Plains -
    Stage House

    1. Stage House was not great last time I was there.

Chez Catherine will be closed for vacation starting either this weekend or next weekend, I'm not sure which, so be sure to call ahead.

      1. The Frog & the Peach is a fine suggestion.

I can't believe it's been a year since the last time we dined at Chez Catherine. Delicious food, excellent service, and lovely ambiance. Maryelizabeth is correct that they close for vacation this time of year. Definitely have to go back there after Labor Day.

We adore Lorena's, in Maplewood. Chef/owner Humberto Campos's food is superb; Lorena, George and the staff provide first rate service; and the small space has very charming decor. BYO.
