Innovative, not necessarily fancy food in the Triangle

I'm relatively new to Raleigh-area and find so much tastes the same and has the same menu. I'd like to find a few places that aren't all about chicken tenders for the kids. I wouldn't mind being able to take kids; I just don't want it to be all about that type of lowest-common- denominator menu. Suggestions? Thanks!
