pre theater on 59th St nyc
Going to the theater tonight -- Primary Stages, 59 E 59th St
Need someplace to eat before -- not expensive
It would be helpful if you would be a bit more specific.
1. What cuisines do you prefer?
2. What is your idea of "not expensive"? And tell us if the figure you give us includes drinks, tax and tip.
If a great burger is acceptable, go to the burger joint at Le Parker Meridien. Enter on 56th or 57th between 6th and 7th (although the 57th Street entrance is a little hard to find).
My husband and I had a nice meal at Bistro 61 (61st and 1st). Order simply... French bistro with the standard fare... Simple menu, mussels are apparently the thing there...I do not eat them but my hubby was pleased... excellent french bread... good by the glass selection... Escargot needed some more garlic/flavor but not bad. Cute little space... Well liked if I am correct...
Also, Mainland on Third Ave and 64th is fun... Upscale Chinese... Fun drink menu, warm, low lighting and comfortable. My hubby and I sat at bar table and ordered drinks and apps for dinner one night. I remember the shrimp dumplings (fancier than traditional) were phenomenal and the soft shell crab app was amazing! We had short ribs and fried rice to finish it off... Perfect for a pre-theater meal...not too filling.
Lastly, Fig and Olive (Mediterranean)on 62nd and Lex is another option. Their menu is broken up into tapas/small dishes and mains... They start you off with a taste of three olive oils and addictive foccacia bread YUM! You can order all sorts of wonderful plates...That is what we did. Check out their menu on menupages... from salads to crostinis to cheese plates and a great wine selection. You can get a table or do like the hubby and I do...sit the bar or a front bar table and relax...
Probably too late for you but for next time. Teodora on 57th (lex bet 3rd) closer to lex. Very good Italian. We saw Indian Blood at the same theater and had pre-theater dinner there. Good food and good play.
