In Watertown is Carmen Anthony's fishouse--Upscale and pretty good
In Waterbury is an Italian which was good when I went several years ago---I think it's called D'addarios. Waterbury is pretty dead at night--
In Southbury--probably about 20 minutes away is the Good News Cafe--I don't particularldy like it (fern bar) I think the food way over-rated, but the foodies love it--it's a Carol Peck restaurant

What are you looking for? I grew up in Waterbury and occastionally get back, but my cravings lean towards pizza, grinders and hot dogs. If you are interested in that, I'll post about the places I make a beeline to whenever I go home.

rworange - I would love to know where you eat in Waterbury! I'm sitting in a dingy hotel room at 3500 East Main, trying to figure where to go for some takeout. Suggestions?

An old thread about Waterbury, there are a few places on East Main Street:

Not too far away from your hotel is Vito's Pizzeria. Very good pizza.

Carmen Anthony's is located on Chase Ave in Waterbury. Check out his website. It's a steakhouse and the food is excellent. D'Orio's is downtown Waterbury and from what I hear has been excellent also. Good News Cafe is located in Woodbury...about 20 minutes away. Good News Cafe has a website also. Circa Bistro downtown is also good. Carmen Anthony's Fish House is located in Woodbury..the steakhouse is in Waterbury.

We decided to try Carmen Anthony yesterday after a friends recommendation. WOW! Everything we ordered was very good. Our group shared Clam Chowder, Crab cake, Shrimp Cocktail, Mini Trio Angus Burger, Lobster Roll, Filet, NY steak. Nice WIne List. Dessert of the Month was very good, Apple Crisp. Service was fantastic , our server was Cheryl. High quality isn't cheap so expect dinner to be rather expensive. Lunch is a good time to go to save $$. Half Price for the Steaks.

Diorio's is possibly the best CT Italian steakhouse outside of New Haven and Fairfield County. It has been there for years, has classic decor, excellent food, and professional service. I would try it if you are looking for a high quality restaurant with real character that the Carmen Anthonys/other regional chains in Waterbury lack.

In Waterbury, Diorio's is good for high-end Italian but if you go, you must eat at one of the old high-backed booths. More on the chowish side, there is good, interesting Portuguese at Lisboa and good rice and beans at La Cazuela and a brand-new Chilean restaurant at the corner of Meadow and Freight Streets just north of the railroad tower. Uncle Willie's has very good barbecue, Nardelli's is great for grinders, Frankie's has excellent hot relish for its hot dogs. Good Italian with a neighborhood feel is to be found at D'Amelio's (BYOB). That's a good start.
