Looking for a few reccs for casual chowish food in Los Gatos/Saratoga area that would be good before heading up to a show at the Mountain Winery. Won't have time for high end experience like Manresa ... just looking for somewhere to grab some good chow in an hour or hour and a half before the show. Not particular on what type of cuisine ... quality is the key.

  1. I haven't been but Main Street Burger, Los Gatos sounds like a winner. Plus they have chocolate frozen custard!

If you go to Main Street Burger, please try the chocolate frozen custard & tell us about it!

But Main Street Burger is if you want something really quick & really casual (like I said, it's like fast food but top quality fast food).

If you are in fact looking for casual fast food (ie order at counter) and burgers are not your thing, I second al88's recommendation below for Rose Market's kebabs (very tender, very flavorful), though the service seems more leisurely-paced than fast food and you might start wondering how long does it take to grill & plate a pre-skewered kebab? like we did when we went.

Another counter-service place we like in Los Gatos is Pizza My Heart on 9 N. Santa Cruz Ave. Crisp-chewy (foldable) thin crust with good (ie high) topping/sauce to crust ratio. I like it better than Willow Glen Pizza also on the same street, even though Willow Glen Pizza has wood-fired ovens and Pizza My Heart does not.

I think Rose's is actually the only fast & casual option in Saratoga. We have cruised up & down Saratoga street a few times looking for fast & casual, and what we've found & tried have been either disappointing (bad quality, or too much $ for what you get), except for Rose's and one cafe where we had a great lunch but it's a coffee/pastry/quiche/sandwiches kind of cafe.

    2. Kebabs at Rose Market. The one on Big Basin isn't as good as the Mountain View Rose Market, but it's quick and inexpensive. The best thing is that it's on the way to the Mountain Winery.

      1. This is one of my favorite places in Los Gatos. Simple, delicious Italian food (mostly pasta). Their pink vodka sauce is really good!

        The Pastaria & Market
        49 E Main St
        Los Gatos, CA 95030

        1. Thanks for all the reccs. Now I'm thinking we have to go down early, have lunch at Main Street Burger (with frozen custard, of course), knock around town for a bit, then off to the Pastaria or Pizza My Heart for an early dinner before heading on to the show.

Wherever we end up, I'll be sure to post a follow up report.

          1. Oh I forgot to mention, if you go to Main Street Burger, avoid the salmon burger or salmon salad. It's a formed patty, not a filet, and doesn't taste good (kind of like unfresh salmon).
