Need: Good, for clients, real NY food

A friend is coming in from Montreal with a bunch of clients and they need a place to eat for tonight and tomorrow. I'm sure that they will be stuck in midtown without my help, so I'm trying to at least get them away from Houston's or TGIF's.

The place can't break the bank completely, but should just upscale and "new york" enough to impress. Right now my choice is Blue Smoke, but any help would be appreciated. It should be between 14th and 60th sts, i know, i know.

    I think you need to clarify how many is "a bunch" of clients. That could make a difference as to what places Hounds would recommend, and whether or not reservations can be secured.

      Gotham Bar & Grill is a quintessential NYC eatery that is sure to impress for both food and looks.

        I like Gotham too but with "bunch of clients," I think it might be risky, when it comes to prompt seating. Montreal has so many great restaurants that it's really hard to think of one, plus, it'll be hard to get a reservation at this point for a large group...maybe Chanto for Japanese fusion?

        It's recently opened and when I went there last week the place was 20% full (Just because it hasn't been highly publicized yet, I think). Good food. Not "real NY food," I know...oh, and, it's 4 blocks below 14th Street...
