need birthday dinner/drinks suggestions

my birthday is coming up in a few weeks during labor day weekend and i'm looking for a place where there's decent food and good drinks. i'm looking for a place that has a bit of a bar so we can segue from dinner to drinks.

if it were just me and my SO i would pick providence or grace and not care about a bar but 6 of my friends who some are on a budget will be coming and a few will be joining us just for drinks.

someone suggested magnolia but it's a bit too much of a hollywood scene. i was thinking of edendale grill but i think their food is pretty blah and it's too far for my westside friends.

i was thinking of beechwood in venice but from what i understand it has mixed reviews. has anyone been to eat. on sunset? i've been to citizen smith and didn't think much of it. whaaah! i mainly want to stay in hollywood area but will travel to los feliz or venice if it's right. please help. thanks!!

hungry cat may fit your bill but do make reservations ahead of time -- I tend to have trouble (even for a party of 2) getting in without notice.

Social Hollywood sounds way too pricey for what you're getting, and not many hounds here dig it.

I liked eat. on Sunset, and wrote up a fairly lengthy review here:

Hungry Cat has a great bar thought I am not wild about the food overall. Pretty much the same goes for Bowery. Social is fun though quite pricey.
Lou is supposed to be lots of fun (I've not been) however I am not sure it meets your bar requirement. Minibar might work or even Firefly but that takes you out of your neighborhood of choice.
I feel like I am overlooking something obvious but I can't quite summon it.
Maybe there is something in or around Larchmont that would work?

You might want to try bld, the new, less-expensive restaurant (which also has a bar) from the owners of Grace. I'm going there with a large party for my bday this weekend, and they've been really pleasant and helpful.

If you don't care if you have to walk a little after dinner, you can try Joe's on Abbot Kinney in Venice, then move on to The Otheroom for drinks just a little bit down the street.
