  1. michi has good sushi and other fusion style food in manhattan beach; it can get a little noisy, though, from the lively crowd..

avenue is another great restaurant in downtown manhattan beach. california cuisine done right!

    1. If you don't mind being inland, how about a really delicious tempura omakase at Komatsu in Torrance? The prices have gone up a bit since this article was written, but it's comparable to a good sushi dinner.

      1. Agreed that Michi is pretty good, but I've never had their sushi, and I've heard that their cooked dishes (which I have had) are better. It is located in downtown manhattan beach, which is a nice area to walk around before or after your meal. But my favorite restaurant in Southbay is Christine in Torrance. They describe their cuisine as "contemporary Pacific Rim and Mediterranean with French influences"...not sure what that really means, but it is very good, and the restaurant has a nice atmosphere for a special occassion. (But not located in a nice area like Michi.)
