Ikeda's Peaches [Split from S.F. thread]

If you go through Auburn on your way to Tahoe, stop at Ikeda's. It's a farm stand (though very large) right off the highway. You'll see it from the road. They bring their own peaches from orchard, and they are the best I've ever had.

Thanks for the report!

  1. This place is orgasmic! No kidding.

I was in Tahoe for 5 weeks this summer and made stopping there a condition for anyone that wanted to come up and visit us to vacation ("you can come stay with us only if you stop at Ikedas on the way").

It's quite a conundrum.......on the one side, it's a greasy burger joint...but on the other side, they have THE most amazing fruit straight from their own orchards, Pies to die for, yummy bakery items, house roasted coffee beans, bulk candy and a collection of their own dressings, marinades, sauces, salsas and shmeres (flavored cream cheese)that are worth having shipped home even when you cannot get there.

The trick is to corner one of the guys who work there to point out which of each of the 4 kinds of peaches, 3 varieties of nectarines and plums is the sweetest. The tomatoes in the fall are worth the drive from the Bay Area alone!

None of these items can be paralleled by other traditional retailers or even at the farmers markets in Tahoe.

As a hint......they have 2 other locations: a smaller shop in Davis right off I 80 and another in Sacramento but I think they are trucking everything from the Auburn location every day. To get to the Auburn shop, exit Foresthill from I 80 E/B and travel East on the Eastern frontage road. Check their website for the other locations.

    1. I had not heard of them before. They make milkshakes it seems out of the peaches.

      here's the website:

I have had their pie. It is a bit sweet IMHO.

Some are but you must resign yourself to try ALL the varieties before passing judgement!! See you in about 15 lbs.!

      2. I stopped by Ikedas about 2 p.m. yesterday and the place was a freaking zoo. The line for the restaurant stretched out the door and there was a long line inside the store to buy produce as well. People were elbow to elbow in the store.
I'd expect that on a weekend but not at 2 p.m. on a weekday.
