Sushi in Yorkville (Not Sushi Inn)

My office team wants to go to a sushi place in Yorkville. It's not Sushi Inn, but another place -- on a lower level?

Anyone know what they're talking about and if so what's good there?

Thanks.

Yeah, Shogun is good. Best Spider Roll in town. Over five years at UofT I have tried every place in Yorkville and it is definately the best. The service and staff are friendly and the food is very good. I find it a little bit expensive -- but, maybe I just a little to used to Konnich-wa on Baldwin. The Tempura Udon is nicely done at Shogun and reasonably priced too.

Never, ever, go to Sushi Inn. Do you hear me?

Yamato is OK. I have never seen pieces of Sushi as large in my life and that is not a good thing! The one on Yorkville right near Bay and across from L'Atelier Grigorian is good for what it is -- really cheap.

I don't know why some of my co-workers love Sushi Inn. Maybe because it's fast and cheap. But they make even a California Roll tasteless. If I have to go with co-workers I'll just have cooked food which is less vile.

Do you mean Shogun, which is right across from the Cumberland Theatre? I went there on a friend's recommendation a few weeks ago and I thought it was great. Not too expensive, great quality and really old school atmosphere (the hot hand towels, servers in kimonos). I think it's been there for a couple of decades, and it's much more formal than the hundreds of budget sushi bars that have popped up since. There was a party of Japanese businessmen eating an absolute feast when I was there, which is always a good sign.

It was Yamato they wanted to go to. Yawn. Sushi was serviceable, but yes, it's mainly about the grills.

There's another place on Yorkville Ave. beside Jeanne Lottie--of course I can't remember what it's called, and didn't get a hit on Google Maps :D

If that's the spot, it's 3/5--dependable, but not great.

Do you mean Yamato on Belair? It's mostly a teppanyaki spot but they do serve sushi as well. I haven't eaten there in years - last time I tried it, the sushi was okay (not bad but not exceptional).
