Cosmos restaurant in Minneapolis? Anyone been? Is it the nest in the area?
Planning on taking a friend there next month for his 40th birthday. It definitely looks like a very cool place, the menu looks great, reviews have been great...but does it live up to the hype?
It is good. It is pricy. I wouldn't say it is the best in the area -- both Vincent and La Belle Vie are superior, in my opinion.
Cosmos is definately cool - its pretty - its pricey and its good. The bar area is a really nice place to have a drink and people watch on most nights. Its one of the those places that draws the see and be seen crowds. The food is good but not great.
Jordan is right: La Belle Vie is far superior, and Vincent's is far more authentic. If you want a fancy night, make a reservation at La Belle Vie for a slightly later seating: the first round (starting around 5/6) is usually slightly older crowd and dressy - the second seating (starting around 7:30/8) is younger/hipper yet appreciates the amazing food and strong wine list. The bar, on weekends, fills up too.
Cosmos was good, but the sound level was very annoying. Very loud. Cool looking room, but when I am paying those prices I want everything to be perfect.
La Belle Vie is the clear winner.
LBV - is excellent for food and service - bar has a good fun atmosphere.... (2 1/2 months ago) the dining room was VERY quiet
Vincent - went 2 weeks ago - Food excellent - service good. but if its a 40th b-day party you will bring the average age down significantly.... The room wasn't happening - but it was a nice quiet meal.
Never been to Cosmos so no help there!
Steak = Manny's
Cosmos is good, but I found it not as adventurous in terms of haute cuisine as similar restaurants, and it was ridiculously pricey. Just absurd.
Others have mentioned La Belle Vie and Vincent; fine choices. But D'Amico Cucina has John Occhiato as their chef, and in my opinion he's the best they've had since Tim McKee. Nicollet Island Inn is rather nice lately too.
For Steakhouses I can only echo crazycook. Murray's is the better restaurant for an overall dining experience. Manny's can't be beat for quality though.
