Looking for a new Indian restaurant in the South Bay
We're getting together with some friends on Sunday, looking to try a new place for northern Indian food. We want to stay in the San Jose area because our friends are coming over the hill. We don't want a fast food environment, want to sit down and be waited on, but it doesn't have to be super elegant. I know there's a zillion places on El Camino, but I really don't know any particular one and would love a recommendation.

I like Zafran in Santa Clara. Excellent tandoori chicken and naan.

I coincidentally just found out about a new Indian restaurant called Mynt ... never been and don't know much about it, but it sounds worth a try. Nothing on this board, but if you google it you can find a few favorable reviews on other sites.

Ignorant questions:
(1) Is there a master list of which dishes are characteristically Northern Indian? Or dishes that you particularly are looking for?
(2) Is a restaurant's web site likely to state that it has particular expertise in Northern Indian food? Should such statements be believed?

re: Jefferson
Hi Jefferson,
Those are good questions and I was curious too so I moved them up to the General Board since they are not SF specific. I found a good link (I think) about the first question.
