help! haven't been to boston since 1995...

...when i was in college, and a trip to Legal was a real treat. my wife and i are arriving in a week. i have a little more disposable income now but realize that boston has probably changed alot. (what's with the Silver Line??) can anyone give me some suggestions of places that have opened since i left? (no steakhouses or seafood places, please...i can find them on my own. i'm talking about places where chefs are doing interesting things for people who like food, and not scenesters who like to be seen.) thanks alot everyone.

Like the flavors at Oleana a lot. That's a tasty, fun place tucked away in Cambridge.

Neptune Oyster on Salem Street is great for seafood. It's a tiny space but it has a nice marble bar that is quite comfortable for dining. As for the Silver Line, it's a nice addition to the T. I used it the last time I went to Logan.

I would hot the South End - awesome new restaurants there. A good relatively new one is Sibling Rivalry.

Checkout Silvertone off the Downtown Crossing area. Often crowded, but worth the wait & also quite inexpensive.

Lots of terrific ethnic food across the river in Cambridge. Great restaurants off of basically every one of the squares....Indian, Thai, some great BBQ or Portuguese food too.

As mentioned in another thread on here today, check out the bar menu for Cuban sandwiches at Chez Henri - easy to find, off Mass Ave just past Harvard.

Well, as a North End resident, I'll limit my recommendations to that neighborhood. There are a lot of great places that have opened since '95. Salem Street especially has seen an explosion of wonderful cuisine. My current fav (and only about a month old) is La Galleria 33. La Brace and Eclano are also solid, tasty choices. Off Salem Street, there's Mare, which focuses on organic fish, Marco, in the old Trattoria a la Scalenatella space, Strega (overrated rood-wise but a fun scene), Carmen, Taranta (an Italian/Peruvian fusion restaurant)and Prezza.

Of course, the old standbys like Mamma Maria, Terramia, and Sage shouldn't be ignored.
