Best Restaurant By The Water?

Biff Wellington Aug 15, 2006 10:56 PM

Hey all,

Have a friend coming down in the next few weeks who wanted to eat at a nice place by the water. As much as I may consider taking her down to a place like the Montage, for now I would like to stay closer to home. So, any coastal area (Santa Monica, Venice, Malibu, etc.) would be great. Price not important at this point, nor is cuisine. Any help would be appreciated.

While I agree with all these posts, I have to say Charthouse on PCH between Santa Monica and Malibu isn't bad, and what I like about it; you can park, go for a nice walk on the beach right there (and this part of beach isn't overly crowded, and then head for your dinner...not gourmet perfect, but a nice view, not outrageously priced and substanial if that walk on the beach makes you really hungry. Also enough variation on the menu to please all visiting tourists.

Ocean and Vine in the Loews should also be considered in addition to the above.

ONE PICO at Shutters. No question about it.

The Lobster in Santa Monica, Geoffrey's in Malibu, either the Casa del Mar or Shutters Hotels side by side in Santa Monica near Pico.
Back on the beach for breakfast or lunch on a sunnyish day can be fun on pch just north of the California incline, where wearing flip flops is a sign of being overdressed.
