Is Hu Hot Mongolian Grill worth trying?
They are putting the finishing touches on one in our town now and I've never heard anything good or bad about them. Should we give them a try or skip it?
It's certainly not the best Mongolian cuisine there is, but given that most of the places where they are located are in areas that are not-so-cosmopolitan, it might be the best that you'll find.
I ate at one of their restaurants a few times while visiting Coralville, Iowa. It's pretty decent fare, if you're not comparing it to real Mongolian food.
If you've never been to a Mongolian Grill before I'd definitely say it is worth trying out. It's unique and fun--especially the first time. I remember when the chain really first started to expand in the early 2000s and one opened in Sioux Falls where I was attending college. It was packed for months straight. The novelty is worth experiencing.
That being said, I think the actual quality has a lot to do with the franchise that you are visiting. I've always had fine experiences at the one in Sioux Falls and Des Moines, but the two times I've visited in Sioux City when home seeing my family it was terrible.
My first experience with HuHot was in Iowa, and it was a wonderful experience. I enjoyed the variety of sauces and the wide range of food items. You could litterally have something different for a month or better.
I only wish that there was one on the east coast SOMEWHERE. I have not been to another Mongolian grill, but I plan to try one out to see how it measures up to HuHot. It would take alot to disappoint me.
