The Village Crown Closes

The Village Crown in NYC has closed.
Closed... as planned. They made a strategic decision a few years ago to focus on catering, less stressful than the nightly serving... and Eli was a real host welcoming people as if to his own home. It is very hard to do that for years and years, so he moved his main business a few years ago to midtown and is a good mid-priced caterer (I think under OU). He may also be the supplier of the cafe at the Center for Jewish History, but I am not suer about that.
I'm not going to miss the place. All I remember was somewhat ok food and a total lack of air conditioning. Plus the one time a waiter kept on asking me if I wanted my check minutes after serving the main course.
