short notice london

Hi everyone, my girlfriend and I are taking a last minute trip to London. Neither of us have been, but we are very excited to experience it.

Since it's so last minute, I've not really had time to research restaurants. While we don't have an incredible amount of money to spend, I would like to go at least one pretty nice place (like around $250 US total).

Can anyone recommend a romantic place with great food where we can either get short notice reservations or don't need reservations at all?

Any other thoughts are appreciated. We're staying near Charing Cross station.

Thanks in advance.

I am not recommending it for the food, but if you want a decent place for a drink you can try an old London institution called Gordon's Wine Bar which is on Viller St ( which runs between Charing Cross Station and Embankment Station

A bar has been on that site since 1890.

For food around there, I have had decent meals at The Savoy Grill since it was revamped. The last was two years ago though, so I cannot speak for how it is now. Beforehand, you should certainly try a drink in The American Bar which is one of my favourite place in town for cocktails

I think you would not be disappointed with La Gavroche. Great menu, great service.

Oh, yeah, Candy says I have to add ambience. Seriously, lunch at La Gavroche was one of the finest dining experiences we've ever had anywhere.
