Best dim sum brunch?

Looking for a great dim sum brunch (Manhattan preferred)... I know there have been several threads suggesting places but I haven't seen one more recently.

Whats the best spot these days?

  1. I like Jin Fong on Elizabeth Street off Canal. Big and pretty consistent quality.

    1. Jin Fong is good for big groups and for the additional side cooked dishes you leave your table to get. I went to Golden Unicorn recently by East Broadway. You go into an elevator to get to the 2nd or 3rd floor; its a little pricier but dim sum is good plus the pan fried noodles w/chicken is great. I haven't been for awhile but I recall Oriental Garden, which I think is on Elizabeth, as not being bad. The great thing there is that you write down on cards that are already placed on the table what you want.

recently had a dim sum brunch at golden unicorn and thought it was great. while i love the idea of being able to sample a number of different dishes, i generally find most dim sum to be pretty bland for my palate, but the food we had at golden unicorn was really tasty and didn't require the addition of too many condiments to perk it up -- a big plus in my book. went with some family from out-of-town, including two little ones, and both kids (5 and not-yet 3) were really chowing down.

      2. There's only one place I know of for truly great dim sum in the Five Boroughs: Chinatown Brasserie. After that, there are some much cheaper, good places in Flushing (and perhaps in Brooklyn, but I'm not familiar with any of those). Based on one visit, Oriental Garden is clearly a couple of cuts above Jing Fong/Golden Unicorn/Harmony Palace, etc. - which are mediocre or OK, depending on your viewpoint, but no way great - but not as good as good Flushing places.

        1. Does anyone have anything to say about Dim Sum Go Go? I've heard mixed things and I'm curious. I should probably just go and report back to you all. Ha.

          1. I was just there this weekend and it's still a fave of mine. Here are my recs: Baked Pork Buns, Shrimp Rolls with Mango, Duck Dumplings, Shrimp Dumplings, Rice Pancake w/ Beef, Spinach Dumplings, and the Jade Dumplings. Recommend the steamed pork buns too.
