Looking for "it" spot with great food

ddelicious Aug 14, 2006 03:51 PM

I'm planning a birthday dinner with a few friends in Toronto. We haven't managed to try many new places in the last year, so we're looking for a hot spot that has great food too, so we can have a fun night out! Place should offer a good menu selection to suit varying tastes, price is not really an issue.

"it" spot meaning trendy?...where a lot of people will be hanging around to socialize?

Not hanging around to socialize, I meant "it" as in popular because its new and good.

        Czehoski would fit that criteria.

I just read that the chef broke his arm and isn't working there right now (thanks estufarian). It was on my list before that!

oh, that's too bad then, what about Jamie Kennedy's Wine Bar or Perigee? If money is not an issue.
Also, I've heard Caren's Wine Bar in Yorkville is a new trendy spot that is good.

True - his arm is in a cast and he can't cook. But he is still 'in attendance' - supervising and plating.

JKWB and Perigee are both great. I would recommend that as I am sure a lot of fellow chowhounds would too. Another suggestion is Splendido...not brand new but the experience is to die for.

Avoid Lobby!!! It's a no man's land right now. I think it was trendy about 3 weeks...

i would say the current 'it' spots are Cava and Kultura...both worthy candidates

Splendido is having a special menu in September to celebrate an anniversary. As I recall, it is $170 with wine pairings. I am gathering my posse now.

The menu at JKWB looks like its just appetizer type things, is this right? Or are people recommending the resturant behind it?

The idea at JKWB is to order a lot of small dishes. They are worth it.
