Best Empenadas??

NYC, where are they??

  1. For Argentine baked empanadas I've always been a fan of Ruben's, a venerable NY institution, now with several locations.

I believe Mexican, Venezuelan & Colombian empanadas are all fried. I've had good fried ones at Empanada Mama, Caracas Arepa Bar, Flor's Kitchen & Bogota Latin Bistro (PArk Slope).

i'd avoid the ruben's on first ave in the east village, though. dry and tasteless and all-around disappointing.

Ruben's, sans doubt. For best food quality, check out their location over on Broome a hair away from the Holland Tunnel.

      2. Pomaire (46th and 9th Avenue) has good Chilean empanadas. But look out-- they're massive. There's a photo of one in our review of the place, if you want to see what I'm talking about. Great fillings though.

        1. Sunnyside, Queens is good for friend Colombian-style empanadas. I like Mama's, 42-18 Greenpoint Ave.

          1. empanada mama on 9th ave is great
