Chicago Dogs - Scarborough, Maine

I know that its time to write about a place when - I have been their three times in the past three weeks AND I do a Chowhound search and it comes up empty.

Chicago Dogs is located on Route One in Scarborough, in the same building as the Sudsy Carwash, between the town office and the Orion Center. I'll say this: both the food and the carwash are excellent.

The hotdogs are big and juicy, with enough topping options to satisfy the most demanding customer. The eponymous loaded dog "The Chicago" is a is a 100% Vienna Beef hotdog served on a steamed poppy seed bun topped with tomato, pickle, mustard, bright green relish, peppers and celery salt. I really didn't care for it the first time I had one...then I found myself craving one the following weekend. It grows on you. My kids are fussy eaters but their regular dog with ketchup suits them just fine. The fries are handcut, thin and excellent.

It would be easy to dismiss the place as either a chain (it might like to be one day, I don't know) or an awkward tack-on to a hand carwash. Don't be fooled. Its well worth the trip...

    Thank you for the info......
I never stopped there, but will now that I know its good. I thought the car wash was very expensive! I go to Classy Chassis on Forest Avenue for a outside wash only for $8.

      You forgot the onions. ;-)

Glad to see the Chicago dog love spreading throughout New England.
