Fun place for brunch Saturday-village, Chelsea, or SoHo

I'm looking for a fun place for brunch to take my with-it and 80-year old mother next Saturday.
She likes American, new American, Californian, and French.
Moderate in cost.
We would like local color and atmosphere.
We would like to go to a place where we can make a reservation; I don't have patience for a long wait when time is so limited for us.
