Casual Eats Near CPA in San Jose

Oceanlover Aug 13, 2006 04:58 AM

We are attending a performance tomorrow and am looking for a casual, moderately priced restaurant. We like all ethnic food so we are adventurous. Although not ethnic, we recently ate at Sonoma Chicken and have mixed feelings about the food. My husband's vegetarian sandwich was good but my chicken salad was just OK. I'd like to stay within easy walking distance of the theater.

There are a lot of restaurants in that area, some unrealistically pricy for what you get. My vote would go to House of Siam, which is on 2nd St. A nice little spot with good food is Tandoori Oven. Here's a link: http://www.thetandoorioven.com/ It's on 1st St., so a little closer. There's also a new Amici Pizza on Santa Clara (closer to La Pastaia) but that may be out of range. I would check with Tandoori to make sure they are open on Sunday. Oh, and there's also Shalimar (OK Indian/Pakistani) on San Fernando between Market and Almaden Blvd.

I saw the Tandoori Oven location in Los Gatos and thought it looked pretty good, so I'm excited to hear there's a downtown location that's more convenient to me. What items on their menu do you recommend?

Hawg's Seafood has been pretty good when I've gone. The Hawg's chowder is somewhat of a cross between Manhattan and New England.

I love that Hawg's chowder, and would love to have the recipe. Anyone have an idea on what's in it? Is it a New England chowder with some tomatoes added? I've never had better chowder.
