Steak frites

Hi, I'm looking for the tastiest steak frites in Manhattan. I am also looking to not break the bank. Downtown a plus, but not a must. Thanks!

Um, Balthazar owns this category...but it's not cheap. For a little cheaper...try Casimir on Avenue B. Really tasty.

There is Père Pinard on the Lower east side....Chez Jules on St-Mark's place....Brasserie Les Halles....L'express....Chez Lucien...Those are the ones I have tried and they are good. I would say that Lucien is the best.

Tartine in West Village has 2 kinds - one in Bordeaux Sauce and the other in Peppercorn-based sauce. The steaks are decent and the sauces are pretty good and the fries are better. I think, each is under $20. BYOB, to booth.

Cosette, on 33rd St., b/t Lex & 3rd, is a tiny, pleasant French bistro. Well-prepared onglet (hanger steak) & frites for $19.
