Pudong, Shanghai

Any restaurants in Pudong that you would recommend? I'm travelling to Shanghai at the beginning of September and staying in Pudong. While I'll be travelling across the Huang Pu often (and would love some recommendations for Shanghai propper), I'm also interested if there are any culinary destinations on the Pudong side of the river. Thanks!

  1. Not sure about destination restaurants in Pudong, though there might be something worth a trip at the Grand Hyatt or the Shangri-La (great restaurants are often found at top-end hotels in Asia). There's plenty of good eats, though, as many of Shanghai's best-known restaurants have branched out to Pudong (mostly in the Lujiazhuai district).

    1. I tried Jade Garden next door to the Grand Hyatt in the J Life Tower, 4th floor, essentially the adjacent building connected to the Jin Mao Tower which is where the Grand Hyatt is located.

The Shanghai food is not bad, though a bit expensive for casual dining. Great for a business dinner, or just an upscale Chinese dinner. Corkage is 100rmb, though the person I asked had to ask other people, so it may or may not be 100rmb depending on whom you ask.

Whampao is ok, but wicked expensive. Has great views of the Bund though.
