Saturday Lunch in Asheville?

a

Baltimore hound seeks advice. Will be in Asheville on Saturday and would like to grab some lunch in the downtown area. Any recommendations? Am going to Zambra's for dinner that evening, so anything but Mediterranean, I guess...

TIA!

I second all the above recs. except the Bistro at Biltmore, which I haven't tried. Unless you're a big eater, though, some of them may be a bit heavy if you're also going to Zambria tonight. Early Girl Eatery (regional neuvo Southern) and The Laughing Seed (vegan/vegetarian) offer a dependable variety of soups, sandwiches, and salads for lunch.

Try the Bistro at the Biltmore Estate (if you don't have to be a guest of the Inn to dine there). It's actually very good food and you can't beat the location.

maybe a little late, but just to further the rec for salsa:

        can't go wrong.

Ditto on the Salsa's recommendation. I'm heading there myself for lunch tomorrow. My all time favorite in A'ville I think, at least for lunch.

all good recommendations....if you want good beer and pizza - Barley's or if you want to have pizza and beer and sit outside and really see all the tatooed, dreadlocked Ashevillians mingling with seniors and kids...Mellow Mushroom

Salsa's is my favorite downtown - same owners as Zambra but completely different food. Salsa's is Mexican/Carribbean, with creative, well-priced food. Tupelo Honey is also good (Upscale Southern), and we love Mela (Indian). Have fun!

That would be my recommendation, too. Salsa is don't-miss.

Actually, Zambra is not the same ownership anymore. Hector sold it a while back. Other good lunches include Sunny Point(breakfast-y) and Doc Chey (small regional chain pan-asian).
