  1. it's been awhile, so they may have turned things around, but i wasn't impressed. i went 3 times during their first two years of operation. the food was ok, although portions are smaller, but cost the same, as those at the charleston store. bigger complaints were the noise level; it was hard to hear others at my own table, but due to weird accoustics we could clearly hear people seated in other parts of the restaurant. also service ranged from ok but slow to downright bad. my wife took business clients there some time after my last visit, and was so embarrassed by the treatment they received (the restaurant was my wife's pick) that she has refused to go since (not that i've been nagging her to do so).

i'd go to the lobster trap or even bonefish grill before i'd go to the boathouse.

    1. My wife and I have been there twice. We actually enjoyed the first experience about a year and a half ago. We went again about 9 months ago and it was pretty good but not as good as the first trip. Being that Asheville isn't Charleston or anywhere near the coast, I feel that its a safe bet. We like Bonefish as well but we actually liked the ambiance of the Boathouse better believe it or not; especially if the weather is nice enough to sit outside along the lake. IMHO, I think its a little classier than the Bonefish Grill. Haven't been to the Lobster Trap.

      1. Boathouse is really good, but not amazing. If you sit outside along the lake, it makes for a very enjoyable dining experience, every time I've gone there service is friendly and we enjoy ourselves. Lobster Trab is noisy, overpriced, nothing has much appeal, and the service is less than welcoming.

In fairness haven't been to Boathouse in more than a year. Our last experience was less than stellar. It was at the time VERY noisy inside and so we were glad to be seated outside. Unfortunately we hit a night when there was a large party in the private room so service was very poor. On the other hand we go to Lobster Trap fairly frequently. If you go expecting a beachy, casual atmosphere you won't be disappointed. I've found the food consistently good and fresh and the staff very friendly.
