Seeking Solace in the form of Milkshake

harshbeth Aug 10, 2006 09:42 PM

My niece has just moved to Chicago, Lakeview area & I'd like to steer her to some great shakes. She's a big fan of Black & Whites and mochas..any suggestions?

Unfortunately, A lot of the stuff that showed up when I did a search seemed outdated. You guys have always been great at steering me to praise-worthy spots for specific foods (thank you thank you thank you for the roast chicken recommendations!) & I look forward to passing along your advice.

some places that I have had good milkshakes in lakeview/lincoln park are.

Bobtail Soda Fountain (2951 N Broadway)
    Frances' Deli (2552 N Clark)

Go to Bobtail if you just want the shakes and go to FRances' if you want to have it with some food. Frances' has very good sandwiches like the Reuben, etc. They serve breakfast/ brunch but I think lunch is the way to go.

There is also another Bobtail place on the corner of Southport and Cornelia.

If she's willing to go a little bit farther, go to Oberweiss on Milwaukee at Ashalnd (they even have a larege parking lot in the back they share with Jewel and other businesses): 293 N. Milwaukee Ave., (773) 276-9006. Oberweis is a local dairy, at their stores they sell glass bottled milk, lemonade (the best), ice cream, and other goodies to take home as well as having a great fountain menu. I love my chocolate shakes and they by far have the best (their mint chip shakes are great too)! http://www.oberweisdairy.com/web/default.asp

She can also try Scooter's Frozen Custard on Belmont and Paulina in Lakeview (1658 W. Belmont Ave). They are also very, very good and different than your average ice cream shop.
