Maine Blueberries

I have fond memories of the small intensely flavored blueberries available in New England...fresh during the summer and frozen the rest of the year. While I can't imagine finding the fresh here in SoCal, does anyone know of a local source for the frozen...Mrs. TravelPath is craving a piece of my Maine blueberry pie...and so am I!

The request was for frozen Maine blueberries; ie wild or low bush. Try Trader Joes. They often are not labeled as Maine blueberries, but you'll know them when you see them.

Sorry, but I think you're going to have a hard time finding the real goods until later in the year. I just had the best blueberries I've ever had (and never was a real blueberry fan before now) by a local organic farmer in July. They were not too sweet yet with a hint of a floral taste, firm, fresh and bursting with juice. The pie I made with them for July 4th was AMAZING.

The name of the farm is Whitney Ranch from Santa Barbara, and I spoke with Rachel (rachel@whitneyranch.com). She was at the SM Farmer's market at the Promenade and I got some of her last batch for the summer last month. She said that she'll be back with a small crop in the fall.
