Hi Everyone!

I'm going to Portland from Boston for the weekend for my boyfriend's birthday at staying at the Portland Harborview Hotel. I made reservations on Saturday night at Fore Street on a friends recommendation.

I was hoping someone could suggest a good lunch spot that's on the water and within walking distance to our hotel. This is our first trip to Portland and we're really excited.

Fore Street is a great choice! I can't help with the lunch on the water dilemma though.

I tend to avoid those places off Commercial Street because they all seem so touristy. The only place in the Old Port I've been to with a water view is Flatbreads, which has very tasty pizza and a deck in the back overlooking the ferry terminal.

Try Portland Lobster on the water and on Commercial Street. They serve more then lobsters, but I think you will enjoy their food and service.

Portland Lobster would be a good choice, as would the upstairs patio at Mims - both just a block away from the Harborview Hotel. The great irony of Portland is that there are NO restaurants with commanding water views. Yosaku is also just a stone's throw from the Harborview Hotel, if you like sushi, and if you are looking for a swank martini bar, Una is just across the street and down a hundred yards on Fore Street (take a left as you exit the hotel lobby).

Consider The Porthole or Gilbert's Chowder House...both more "hole in the wall" atmosphere w/ outdoor decks right on the water.

Gilbert's has great chowder. Not sure when J's Oyster Bar opens but I love it there. Also, get breakfast at the Standard Bakery, right below Fore Street (such a good place), and owned by them as well.

There is also Oolong on Commercial very close to the hotel. An Asian fusion/chinese restaurant open for lunch and dinner. Outdoor seats right on the harbor and indoor seats with water views too. Best drinks in the city.
