[AUS] Cheese enchiladas with cheese sauce?

Dave Westerberg Aug 6, 2006 10:55 PM

OK, I hear Jorge's on Hancock used to serve great Cheese Enchiladas with cheese sauce, but they don't anymore (recipe changed or something). Anyone ever had these anywhere else in Austin and liked them?

Quite a few of Jorge's original recipes are still served at a small place just south of St. David's Hospital on the I-35 Access Road. It's just south of 30th street or so, pretty close to campus. I think the name is Aus-Tex-Mex or something like that. I remember eating at the Jorges on 6th Street in the 80s and they definitely had the extra cheese enchiladas. Good (or potent) margaritas back then, too.

If I'm not mistaken, this is basically what Josie's Enchiladas at Maudie's are. The menu describes them as follows:

      Josie’s Enchiladas $6.50
Attention cheese lovers! Two cheese enchiladas covered with
our great chile con carne sauce, onions and then baked.
Finished with our savory chili con queso.

They're mighty tasty no matter how you think of 'em.
