Is Stan's Donuts still around?

I have been craving Stans since I left a San Jose consulting gig several years ago, and being from So Cal I have yet to find a match for the 7 AM feeding at Stan's. I love those deliciously warm glazed donuts, which should be classified as a food group.

I am seriously thinking about flying up there just to get two or three boxes and share 'em at work, just so I can say "see I told you these are the best in the world!". Lou's and Krispy Kreme could never hold a candle to Stans glazed IMHO.

What's interesting is that here in Westwood there is a place named Stan's Donuts that has delivery service and donuts with candy bar like names and even peanut butter and jelly donuts. The humanity - The food gods should have bestowed delivery service upon the true legend of donutdom - Stans Donuts of Santa Clara.

My only fear is that by the time I get back to the donut promised land Stan's will have been extinct, environmentally destroyed by the mass pollution of Reeses peanut butter encrusted donut, neon lit, corporate parasites that tell us what a good donut is and how a donut purchased at thier store can make your love life better.

Hang in there Stan's Donuts, if your still there, I'm coming to the rescue one day to enlighten the masses, and will stand proud when I am called a donut hugging liberal.

Regards,

Cosmo M

  1. It still there, and going strong. But the last time I was there I lovely older lady who always asked what can I do for you honey was not there.

But the donuts were still good.

    1. Cosmo. We lived close to San Jose for 7 years, Stans is amazing. Likewise moved to SoCal 3 years ago and go to Stan's whenever we go visit friends. It's one of those places you can tell someone, "this is going to be the best donut you've ever had in your life" and not be bragging. Have you been to the Stan's in Westwood? I hear it's good but I'm afraid to get my hopes up. Sucks that LA, donut capital of the world, doesn't have a place like Stan's that takes the heavy glazed donuts out of the oil hot and fresh and ladles the glaze over them. A single Stan's glazed is about 3 times the weight of a Krispy Kreme donut. Often referred to as "The Lord's Donut"

      1. I see that this thread has been bumped from August 06. But I can assure you that Stan's is definitely still around, and I'm doing my best to keep 'em in business! Love those sublime Stan's donuts. Glazed, old-fashioned, they're all fabulous, and only 65 cents each (a dollar less than the ones at Starbucks). I only wish Stan's had decent coffee.

        1. A side benefit of having lunch at Sumiya is that it's right next to Stan's Donuts. And I could finally be there at time when it's open with a few donuts to sell. I tried a chocolate fashioned, maple bar, and raised glazed. All good, but hands down, the glazed donut was the best of the offerings.
