Best Dishes to Carry-Out and Serve at Home for an Elegant Dinner?
To minimize time spent in the kitchen, I often like to pick up a few already prepared courses and concentrate on preparing just one dish.
For ex, recently have picked up the fish soup at Bandol, the mushroom soup at Jane, onion soup at Artisanal, gazpacho at Le Pain Quotidien, lamb dumplings at Pasha, mashed potatoes or mushroom ravioli at Agata & Valentina, spicy, roasted corn on the cob at Cafe Habana (which I cut from the cob and use in other preparations), etc. Then, usually prepare the roast, the fish, the main course myself, though might pick this up as well (and tell the restaurant I'll be reheating it, and this has worked well). Enjoy having a wide variety of flavors and serving 3-4 small courses, each of excellent quality, yet this would take days to shop for and prepare by myself!
Looking for other favorite dishes of any cuisine, any price, any course, any location in Manhattan that can be reserved at home w/o losing the quality (ie no risotto, fish entrees, tartares, sushi, etc.)
I always like to do an antipasti platter. You can serve it at room temperature and much of the food goes quite well with pastas and main courses as well. I LOVE the dishes at Murray's cheese. Their eggplant, artichokes, and olives are superb but so are the more substantial dishes like their mac and cheese. Have a great dinner!
