A friend just gave me a bottle of this wonderful 100 proof bourbon. Said he found it in Wyoming, I believe. Never seen it before. Has a white label (like a negative of the regular label) and the back label says "Distilled by the Stonegate Distillery DSP Ky 31, Bardstown, Nelson Country, KY 40004.

IMHO much better stuff than Maker's Mark - but I have never been a huge fan of that brand - and much better than standard Evan.

Anybody else ever heard of the stuff? Or tried it?

I haven't tried that one, but I think Evan Williams Single Barrel is one of the great bourbon values out there. Changes some year to year, which feels more 'real' than the sameness of most other brands.

That must be some friend! Does the bottle indicate how long it's been aged?

I haven't tried that particular bourbon, but I agree...Maker's Mark is good, but not great. My current favorite is Rock Hill Farms (100 proof).

No age given. Evan always used to be 7 years, but no longer says that. It did not taste super old and nor especially woody and charred; the smoothness seems imho to be a product of careful distillation.
