Sammy's Roumanian - proper attire?

Going to Sammy's Roumanian tonight, and just have one quick question -- is it like a standard steakhouse, where you'd be extremely out of place in shorts and a t-shirt? I ask only 'cause, given the current temperatures, I'm not eager to wear a whole lot of layers, especially if I'm going to be stuffed with steak and vodka.

  1. Probably not out of place, however, go for the slacks and a nice polo.

RU kidding? The place is a dump - and intentionally so. I'd walk in with my pajamas on. (This is not a commentary on their food, which is unique and very good... and expensive.) Have the chopped liver - and if you're really hot, use the spritzer at the end which they give you for the egg cream, to douse each other three stooges style!

I agree. I would almost feel weird in slacks and a polo. T-shirts, jeans, shorts, whatever is not only welcome, but more appropriate that business casual. There are always a few bachelor parties, but even those guys seems to be in jeans and button-ups at best.

    2. OUT OF RESPECT FOR THE RESTAURANT AND IT'S HISTORY, I WOULDNT WEAR SHORTS AND OR TEE SHIRT. YOU WILL BE COMFORTABLE INDOORS. I WOULD DEFINITELY WEAR LOOSE FITING PANTS AND YOU WILL MOST ASSUREDLY WALK OUTTA THERE STUFFED IF YOU'VE HAD THE FULL DINING EXPERIENCE!! I LOVE THIS PLACE BUT ONLY ONCE A YEAR....

      1. As another poster said, this place is intentionally a schticky dump. If you dress up you will feel overdressed at best and silly at worst.

For what it is, the food is only adequate and ferociously overpriced. At the end of the night you'll walk out thinking of the dozens of places you could have had a better meal for the same amount of money. The "entertainment" doesn't begin to balance the equation.
