Roast Chicken in Gramercy/Flatiron/Kips Bay

I'm having some friends over for dinner tonight and I'd like to pick up a roast chicken to go with the brisket that I made yesterday.

Does anyone have any suggestions as to where I should go for a good take-out chicken?

Musette (3rd Ave & 19th) - roast chickens that are both stuffed and surrounded by either vegetables or potatoes.

Gramercy Meat Market (2nd ave & 22nd) - Organic roast chickens stuffed with an onion and heavily herbed

    Call ahead and good luck

Glad to see another fan of Musette's roast chickens--the best I have found in NYC. I look forward to trying Gramercy Meat Market's too.

    2. I had actually gone into Musette in the morning, because I thought that I had remembered Chowhound recommendations for the chicken. They looked good, but I had a strong feeling that the stuffing and vegetables would be wasted on this group.

In the end, my husband went over to RUB BBQ on West 23rd and got some chicken (and hush puppies) there. I didn't taste it beacuse I was too enamored with my brisket, but apparently it was delicious.

I will definitely have to check out the Musette chicken in the near future.

        Thanks for the update!

btw, is the RUB chicken sauced or more like a standard "plain" rotisserie chicken?

fyi, just in case I wasn't clear the GMM chicken is not "stuffed" with stuffing but is sold with the onion it was roasted with still in it's cavity. oh and "heavily herbed " is in relative to the more standard "plain" roast chickens sold most places.

speaking of "plain" chickens, I was very plesantly surprised by a whole chickens bought at East Side Poultry on 1st Ave @73rd st.

I bought one 'cause i was tired and starving even though I could've sworn that I didn't care for their stuff I had from there in the past. By the time I got downtown, it was still piping hot and had to be one of the juiciest and flavorful chickens I can recall having from anywhere in quite awhile.
