The Beachcomber @ Crystal Cove Cottages

Not to be confused with the Shake Shake above it on PCH.

This Ruby's-owned eatery is a few days old and surprisingly 'together'. B,L,D are served. Breakfast and dinner were very good, especially for the price. Price run $6 (B) to maybe $20 (D).

NOT a Ruby's menu. Steak, fish, chicken dishes w/a CA accent. Snappy service (tho' the joint is still finding its sea legs). Coming soon: cocktail bar (they serve good drinks from a service bar now) and a walk-up window for beach grub-type fare.

But the view! Steps from the water, literally. Historic cottage vibe as you are right in the heart of this magical enclave. Inside is jet-engine loud-- but who want to sit inside when that patio is there? Crowds will be thick for some time. Expect to wait; or, dine early.

Bottom line: worthy eats on the some of CA's finest beachfront real estate. Be thankful this is a state beach-- and can't become yet another lush-posh resort.

  1. The food is nicely done, and the only thing frozen are the fries. Please do not tell anybody about this place, it is a walk back in time. The hamburgers for lunch are hand made.

Grab a pager and walk the beach. They are training lots of staff but they show potential and a fun spirit, The owner of Rubys was busing tables and polishing silver this past weekend.
This is the best place of any coastal area of California.

      1. They've told me over & over not a Ruby's - only the former Shake Shack up on the cliff - interesting.

        1. It is a totally separate division. The also run the catering for up to 200 people. We stayed in one of the cottages and watched an event being setup. The food was cooked on the spot by the beach ,great style and the food smelled great. The event a birthday party we think was a huge success.
