"Cheap Thrills Montreal" -- is it reliable?

Gary Soup Aug 5, 2006 02:27 PM

I just picked up a slender volume called "Cheap Thrills Montreal -- Great Montreal Meals for Under $15.00." It's by Nancy Marelli and Simon Dardick. It lists about 90 restaurants, and what attracted me is that it seems to attempt to cover nearly every cuisine in Montreal.

Any comments on the credibility of the listings, or the judgement of the authors

It is a very good place to start. It has credibility with montreals themselves.

Cheap Thrills Montreal is how I found Cafe Rococo a great inexpensive Hungarian place in Westmont. With that one find I felt the book paid for itself.

The only entry in the book I ever heard a Montrealaise sneer at was L'Académie. (Avoid, it's a mock bistro in a city full of real ones. Plus they work their underpaid staff to death.)

You should check the Cheap Thrills website for corrections and updates.

I find "Cheap Thrills Montreal" book pretty good. Better than any other cheap eats Montreal restaurant guides(french or english). Better than any other Montreal restaurant guide books even(french or english).
